Courvoisier Cognac

Located on the banks of the Charente in Jarnac, Maison Courvoisier has been enhancing the potential of each eaux-de-vie since 1828 through the delicate art of distillation, aging and blending. Through the intensity of their character, our cognacs reveal the spirit, the riches and the heritage of the House.

Our rare and precious cognacs perfectly sum up our passion and dedication to the craft for over 200 years.

The origin of our history goes back to the beginning of the 19th century with Emmanuel Courvoisier and his partner, Louis Gallois, at the head of a wine and spirits trading company in the Parisian suburb of Bercy.
In 1811, Napoleon visited their warehouses at Bercy and was received by Louis Gallois, the mayor, and Emmanuel Courvoisier. Legend has it that Napoleon I then took several barrels of cognac to Saint Helena, a delight that was much appreciated by the English officers of the ship who named it "Le Cognac de Napoléon" (Napoleon's Cognac).
Courvoisier Cognac's reputation as the best cognac available was further enhanced by Napoleon III who granted Courvoisier Cognac the title of "Official Supplier to the Imperial Court" in 1869. This certificate is now on display at the Courvoisier Museum in Jarnac, along with many other Napoleonic objects and souvenirs.
In 1909, the English family Simon took over the Courvoisier business and began to build the identity of the Courvoisier cognac brand and develop its worldwide reputation. They created the silhouette of Napoleon and introduced the Josephine bottle in 1950, both of which are now recognised and renowned throughout the world.
Today Courvoisier cognac is owned by Beam Inc, one of the largest spirits companies in the world.
