During your walks, go to discover these small villages atypical and let yourself be surprised by their authenticity.
ST-SIMEUX:
Small village perched on a hillside and overlooking the Charente, Saint-Simeux offers magnificent views and a privileged setting for walkers.
Discover “Les Essacs”, unique site in Charente and a village cultivating an identity at the crossroads of viticulture and its traditional eel fishing allowed today once a year for Heritage Days.
We will draw your attention to 3 points:
1. “Les Essacs” or fisheries of Saint-Simeux, vestiges of the fluvial and commercial activity of the village. They used to catch downstream eels. They live in the river and go to breed at the age of 10 to 15 years to the Sargasso Sea. The fry will take 3 years to return to the river.
2. The town and its winding lanes open on one side to the Charente valley and on the other to a plateau dedicated exclusively to the cultivation of the vine.
3. The lock of Saint Simeux, picnic area, offers an ideal point of view on the town.
