Let’s go to Bourg-Charente for the Son et Lumière show
The show takes place on two evenings in July on the banks of the Charente at the foot of Bourg- Charente château. It tells the story of cognac through 11 scenes, from antiquity to today. A local association has created the show which traces the real story of traditions and know-how that are unique in the world and that produce cognac.
Following the success in July 2016 with the show «Il était une fois Bourg-Charente…», confirmed in 2017 with more than 2,000 spectators , A brand new Sound and Light show was released in 2018 and was replayed on July 12 and 13, 2019: “The Fabulous History of Cognac”.
The association «Histoire et culture à Bourg-Charente» has succeeded in its challenge by presenting in July 2018 the first sound and light on the history of Cognac, a magical show with many special effects and the latest artistic technologies.
Cognac was born of a legend, that of the knight of the brown cross. Our show retraces the elements that contributed to its birth and the stages that made the fame of this elixir that radiates all the Cognac territory.
Cognac is recounted in 11 paintings depicting the birth of this golden drink, born of a legend, a feast of François Ier, which has experienced difficult times marked in particular by the disease of the vine but also the splendours of an incredible success.
A live show
Technical aspects will be complemented by the presence of many volunteers. More than 130 people, mostly from or very attached to the communes, are involved in the representation, the creation of costumes, voices and the management of logistics. These essential active elements will give the show its meaning and rhythm.
Life-size sets, authentic costumes, increasingly motivated volunteers and new products for 2020…that’s what “The Fabulous History of Cognac”!
