Cognac is the ideal starting point for discovering the great wine merchants and wineries that stretch all the way to Jarnac. The Musée des Arts du Cognac presents the world of the vine and the making of spirits: a perfect introduction to the understanding of the vineyard.
Visit one of the famous trading houses: Bache-Gabrielsen, Baron Otard, Camus, A. De Fussigny, Hennessy, Martell, Rémy Martin, Meukow, in Cognac; Courvoisier, Louis Royer, Tiffon-Braastad, Thomas Hine and Co in Jarnac. Each major Cognac house offers a tour of the cellars and distillery followed by a tasting session.
Jarnac, François Mitterrand's birthplace, has dedicated a museum to him dedicated to the presidential gifts received by the Head of State during his two seven-year term. Take the opportunity to stroll along the Quai de l'Orangerie, lined with wine cellars, which gives Jarnac the charm of a small country town. Between the rows of vines and bunches of grapes, green dominates the landscape along the Flow Vélo®.
Situated in the heart of the Charente vineyards, Châteauneuf lies essentially on the left bank of the Charente. Crossing the bridge over the river, the Ile de la Fuie on the right is a group of four islets accessible by a footbridge.
In the centre of the town, the church of Saint-Pierre-aux-Liens has a beautiful Romanesque façade inspired by the cathedral of Angoulême. Between the church and the town hall with its neo-classical architecture, the old streets are lined with private mansions (15th century Berdeville's dwelling) and old shop windows.
