Châteauneuf : Local itinerary 21 C

Description

In Chateauneuf, you should not miss to visit the church of St Pierre whose 24 m high façade divided into 3 vertical and 3 horizontal parts is considered one of the most beautiful facades in the Charente. After leaving the Bains des Dames beach, head towards Mosnac through beautiful panoramas of the low hills and the river. Witnesses of a rich heritage, mills, churches, wells, manor houses will guide you along this route which opens the doors of the vineyard and takes you to Grande Champagne, the 1st growth of Cognac. Don't miss a stop in Bouteville to visit the ruins of the castle, situated on the top of a green hill overlooking the wine-growing plain, the church of St Paul, a former priory, and at the foot of the castle, a vinegar factory which produces "le baume de Bouteville", a balsamic condiment made from grape must. The return trip to Châteauneuf will take you to the Iles de la Fuie, a place of nature and relaxation which serves as a landing stage for river tourism.
